Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report early analysis suggest the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important political figure stated the attack made him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
